We are pleased to announce that Karol Koscinski has been appointed as the new CEO of the Society of Authors ZAiKS.
Mr. Koscinski is an experienced attorney-at-law. Since February 2022, he has served as a Deputy CEO of ZAiKS, with responsibilities including licensing and international relations. He has previously held positions at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and other domestic and foreign institutions with expertise in copyright law.
From 2012 to 2018, he was responsible for the development of domestic legislation on copyright and media law in Poland, serving as Director of the Department of Intellectual Property and Media in the Polish Ministry of Culture. He also coordinated the preparation of various implementations of EU law, including seven copyright directives, the directive on collective management of copyright, the directive on audiovisual media services, and the European Commission's communication on the public media remit. Additionally, he represented Poland in copyright and media negotiations within the EU Council, appeared in front of the European Court of Justice, and served as Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights at WIPO.
Over the past six years, he has participated in numerous projects aimed at implementing intellectual property protection standards. These projects are organized under the auspices of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and the United Nations Development Programme. He is a fellow associate of the European Audiovisual Observatory. Additionally, he is also the author of over a dozen academic articles on media and copyright law, as well as several short stories.
Mr. Koscinski has successfully transformed the rules of ZAiKS field structures. Furthermore, he played a key role in organizing licensing activities, negotiating favorable agreements with numerous online platforms utilizing creative works, and collaborated with the Ministry of Culture to effectively implement the EU Copyright Directive in the Digital Single Market into national law.
In his capacity as CEO of ZAiKS, Karol Koscinski succeeded Krzysztof Lewandowski, who held the position for over a decade.
