GESAC (European Association of Authors and Composers) is based in Brussels and currently represents 32 societies of authors. ZAiKS has been a member of GESAC since 2004. GESAC represents nearly 700,000 authors or rightsholders in the fields of music, visual and fine arts, as well as literary, dramatic, and audiovisual works, and music publishers. The goal of GESAC, established in 1990, is to support and develop the legal, economic, and cultural activities of its members. The overriding role of GESAC is in public advocacy in relation to the institutions of the European Union. This involves close cooperation with the institutions responsible for the preparation and implementation of European legislation. It should consider both the cultural differences and the economic aspects of copyright, as well as respond to the challenges posed by the growing internationalization of the exchange of cultural goods and the emergence of new technologies. Efforts in the field of international public relations include, inter alia, co-developing legal solutions favorable to the creative sector. In 2019, for instance, the Directive on copyright in the Digital Single Market was adopted, which already has a real impact on authors' revenues. In 2018, for the first time in history of ZAiKS, Deputy General Director of ZAiKS, Mr Rafal Kownacki, was elected Board Member of GESAC.
